SANTABARBARA HOSPITAL wishes to make the journey within the hospital facility, both for the patient and his or her family members, as smooth, clear and comfortable as possible.
To ensure the highest standards of service quality and the best care, therefore, it provides some indications on the operation of the facility with reference to the rules to which users are asked to adhere.

Useful info for the patient

General Information

The life of the guest within the SANTABARBARAHOSPITAL is regulated so that he or she can benefit from the best possible level of care.

During the course of the day he or she will undergo medical examinations, benefit from nursing care, hotel care, and any therapeutic diagnostic acts and procedures necessary to solve his or her health problems.

Rules and recommendations

Please note that upon admission, the patient has entrusted the protection of his or her health to the medical staff and caregivers of the SANTABARBARA HOSPITAL.

This results in the doctors and nurses themselves assuming civil and criminal responsibilities regarding the safety and protection of the patient’s well-being.

In this regard, patients should be recommended to:

  • Do not leave the ward without first notifying the nursing staff..
    In the course of hospitalization, the patient also may not go outside the hospital.
    Patients who leave the room for any reason must wear a robe or room jacket over their pajamas.
  • Respect the quietness of the environment and the rest of other residents.
    In order not to disturb other patients, please avoid noise as much as possible and moderate the volume of technological devices (radio, television, PCs and tablets).
  • In compliance with legal regulations(D.P.C.M. 23/12/2003), inside the SANTABARBARA HOSPITAL smoking is prohibited.
Acceptance and health records
L’acceptance of patients is usually carried out from 08:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. by the appropriate administrative office located on the ground floor.
Health acceptance is carried out by the ward physician who draws up the relevant form; this document sanctions the actual taking charge of the patient by the SANTABARBARA HOSPITAL.
At the time of admission, patients must present the following documentation: → Request for admission issued by the general practitioner; → Valid identification document; → Individual health card or, for those without one, the social security number; → Attachment E: Information access form filled out by the general practitioner. The entire documentation must be handed over to the nurse or the Ward Physician..
This will then be returned before discharge.
However, please request its return the day before the scheduled discharge. In addition, it is essential to report to the medical and nursing staff of the Department any drug and/or food allergies/intolerances of which you are aware, as well as additional details about medical conditions, medications taken, previous surgical procedures.
During the entire hospitalization period it is possible to request the Certificate of Hospitalization stating the date and time of hospitalization.
The Certificate of Hospitalization, which indicates the time and day of discharge, can be delivered only at the end of the Hospitalization. In no case on such certificates, issued for the purposes permitted by law, given the current Privacy Act, will the reason for the Hospitalization be indicated. In case of further information, please contact the Administrative staff.
Preoperative examinations

During the pre-operative hospital stay., the patient will undergo routine preoperative examinations.
In the case of in-depth diagnostics that are necessary, depending on the patient’s specific case, these will be communicated by the medical staff.

The routine preoperative examinations involve:

  • Blood chemistry tests and blood group determination;
  • Blood chemistry tests and blood group determination;
  • Radiography;
  • Electrocardiogram;
  • Cardiological examination;
  • Anesthesiological examination.

The patient, if necessary for the purpose of surgery, may be subjected to further diagnostic tests.

In the case of a diagnostic examination involving the use of contrast medium, particularly iodine, the medical staff will inform the patient about the risks and benefits of the procedure, give directions, and collect informed consent about the procedure.

Hospital stay
The SANTABARBARA HOSPITAL can count on an endowment of 45 inpatient rooms, each of which houses 2 beds, plus another 8 single rooms with a bed available to a family member or caregiver, and one intended for isolation in case of contagious diseases.
The size of the rooms, an average of 24 square meters, ensures a space of 12 square meters per bed; natural lighting is provided by windows, balconies, glass windows and terraces facing the outside.
All rooms are equipped with bathroom with shower, air conditioning, and television.
In order to use the rooms with greater hotel comfort, an economic supplement must be paid, the amount of which can be found on the rate card that can be consulted at the reception office. The presence of a caregiver is allowed in the inpatient rooms with the permission of the ward manager.
During medical examinations or nursing activities, visitors must leave the room. Inpatient food and beverages are not allowed.
The average length of stay is as follows in the respective wards:  

  • U.F. of Medicine: 5 days
  • U.F. of Cardiology: 5 days
  • U.F. of Rehabilitation: 19 days
  • U.F. of Neurology: 18 days
  • U.F. of Orthopedics: 3 days
Discharge
Upon discharge, the patient will be given the SDO (hospital discharge form) and a discharge report addressed to the primary care physician and, if necessary, the proposing Specialist.
The report includes the diagnosis, a description of the clinical evolution and functional picture, the rehabilitation program and its results, the therapeutic prescription and any proposals for follow-up and secondary prevention, intended to ensure continuity on the care plan with the Primary Care Physician and other care facilities.
The discharge letter shows the name of the Physician who drafted it and the telephone numbers at which he or she may be contacted by the Primary Care Physician for any information or clarification.

Valuables

What to know
Management disclaims any responsibility for money or personal items left unattended.
To report any inefficiencies or to ask for assistance with special problems, you can go to the URP, on the ground floor.
In rooms equipped with safes, please follow the described procedure to enable proper use.

What to know
For clinical-health news, relatives may be received by physicians according to the schedules established in each individual department.

Additional hotel benefits

What to know
The SANTABARBARA HOSPITAL is able to offer hospitalization in a reserved, high-comfort room (air conditioning, sofa bed available to the companion, safe, mini bar, choice of menu). *For this service, an additional fee will be required.

Visitor info

Access

In order to provide spaces for socialization and maintenance, family relationships, while respecting the necessary tranquility during medical visits and patient rest periods, one person per patient is allowed to enter the wards for 15 minutes, unless otherwise stipulated by the Health Management.

There is a reception/information station in the lobby: qualified and properly trained young people belonging to the National Civil Service are available to patients and visitors to inform them about every aspect related to services: hospitalizations, diagnostics, outpatient clinics.

Visiting hours

Unless otherwise arranged by the Health Department, visiting hours may be conducted from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

What is allowed
The presence of a caregiver is allowed in the inpatient rooms with the permission of the ward manager.
During medical examinations or nursing activities, visitors must leave the room.
What is not allowed

Inpatient food and beverages are not allowed.

Should medical examinations or nursing activities be necessary, visitors are asked to leave the room.

For health and hygiene safety reasons with regard to children, visits by children under the age of twelve are not allowed.

*Exceptional situations of special emotional implication may be considered by contacting the medical staff of the department.

HOURS
