Women’s hearts are finally at the center today. The Pink Outpatient Clinic that listens, understands and cares for women at every stage of their lives is born.

The doors of thePink Outpatient Clinic within the Department of Internal Medicine at Santa Barbara Hospital open, with pathways entirely dedicated to women’s health designed to accompany all ages of women in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

Why “pink?”

Because gender medicine teaches us that women’s hearts speak a different language: symptoms change, risk factors do too. And prevention needs to be tailored, especially starting at menopause. ThePink Outpatient Clinic was created to raise awareness, guide and protect women’s heart health at any age, with the understanding that symptoms, risk factors and response to treatment can differ significantly between men and women.

Combining her experience at Santa Barbara Hospital and her many years of specialization in Internal Medicine and Cardiology abroad, today Dr. Maria Brigadeci (Head of the Department of General Medicine and Cardiology Service at the Santa Barbara Clinic in Gela), is championing a culture of prevention tailored to each woman.

“The prevention pathway,” explains Dr. Maria Brigadeci. concerns both the psychological and the diagnostic and instrumental spheres. The prevention process is a really important process that focuses on caring for women in all aspects, because that means loving each other “.

Gender medicine: understanding differences to target health

For too long, research and clinical practice have viewed women’s health as merely a “variant” of men’s health. Today, we know that women not only react differently to medications, but also manifest different symptoms and face specific risks, especially in the cardiovascular arena. Cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of mortality among women, precisely because the symptoms are often underestimated or neglected. It becomes, therefore, crucial to promote proper prevention to drastically reduce the risks.

“Gender medicine is a form of listening to and respecting the person, emphasizes Dr. Maria Brigadeci. “It means looking at women’s health in its uniqueness, with targeted pathways that take into account the different stages of life: from young age to menopause and beyond “.

What are the pathways of the Pink Outpatient Clinic

Prevention pathways offered by the Cardiology Department ‘s new outpatient clinic are tailored by age group: from adulthood to post-menopause, with the goal of intercepting cardiovascular risk factors early and promoting a healthier lifestyle.

The importance of cardiovascular prevention

With the new outpatient clinic dedicated to women, Santa Barbara Hospital wishes to advance a more inclusive and informed vision of preventive medicine that truly recognizes and values the biological and hormonal differences between men and women in order to offer more effective diagnosis and treatment.

Through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates internal medicine, clinical cardiology, and advanced ultrasound, in a setting where professionalism and feminine sensitivity are combined with a rigorous and scientific approach, the Pink Outpatient Clinic aims to become a point of reference for informing, educating, and accompanying every woman toward greater awareness of her own health.

“Because if prevention is the first cure, taking care of the heart is the most important act of love that any woman can do for herself.”
